Land Army girl and proud of it.

Mum served in the land army during ww2. She was very proud of her part she took in this terrible war. She was given a big green pedal bike which she used everyday for her journey from Ore in Hastings out to Ninfield.  Grandad Mitchel didn't want her to stay on the farm over night so they provided her with the bike. She would talk about the back breaking work she done on the farm, picking potatoes was a hard job, all done by hand.

After the war the government wrote her a letter asking for there bike back. In true mum style her reply was, "if you want it, come and get it". 😂. Back in the 2000's, a neighbour of mine who also served in the lady army asked mum if she'd had her medal for her service.  She hadn't so we got in contact with the powers that be and after a short wait she received her medal which she would wear with pride and  tell all who asked, "Yes I was a land Army girl".
